Where the big money moves

If Tokyo is the warm-up, London is the main event. This is the busiest, deepest, most trend-making stretch of the entire trading day.
When the London desks flip their screens on, the whole market seems to inhale. Europe handles a bigger slice of daily currency trading than anywhere else on Earth, and you can feel it — spreads tighten, orders fly, and price stops drifting and starts moving.
Tokyo opened the day gently. London kicks the door in.

London’s superpower is its position in the day. It opens while Tokyo is winding down, so it catches the tail of the Asian session — then, later on, it overlaps with New York as America comes online. For a few hours, two of the world’s biggest financial centers are awake at the same time.
With that many banks and institutions trading at once, you get **deep liquidity** — loads of buyers and sellers competing — which keeps spreads tight and your orders filling cleanly. And because the big players are placing real, committed money here, many of the day’s lasting trends are born during London hours.

Deep liquidity is a trader’s best friend. Tight spreads mean you pay less to get in and out, and cleaner fills mean the price you click is much closer to the price you get. That’s why so many pros build their whole routine around the London open.
Tokyo sets the tone. London decides where the day is actually going.
London’s second half overlaps New York — the single busiest window of the entire day. If you only had a couple of hours to trade, this overlap is where you’d spend them.
Same rule as always — trade where the players are. With Europe in the driver’s seat, the European currencies do the heavy lifting. The euro (EUR) and the British pound (GBP) lead the pack, so pairs like EUR/USD and GBP/USD are natural London movers.
These are also among the most-traded pairs in the entire market, which loops right back to that deep liquidity: lots of interest, tight spreads, and plenty of room for a real trend to stretch its legs.

So that’s the heavyweight: the biggest volume, the tightest spreads, and the birthplace of many daily trends — all riding on EUR and GBP pairs. You’ve now got the two openers down, Tokyo and London. Next, we hand the day off to the final giant: New York.
