
You want to buy a stock, but only if it dips to $95. Instead of a plain limit order, you SELL a $95 put and collect a premium. If the stock falls to $95, you buy it there — and you still keep the premium, so your real cost is even lower. If it never dips, you keep the premium and try again. Either way, you got paid to wait.
